Smart meters or pay and display kiosks?
That is the question.
At least that’s the question for the City of Evanston.
According to Evanston Now, the city is looking to replace their current old school coin operated parking meters. But now they have to decide on whether to go with smart meter (essentially a parking meter that accepts both coins and credit/debit cards) or a pay and display machine, like the City of Chicago has on its streets.
Evanston is pilot testing both options.
In the meantime, Evanston Now has an online poll for readers to choose their preferred method of paying for metered parking. Currently, the results are split close to 50/50.
If you decide to take a trip to Evanston, it will set you back a whopping $1 per hour to park there.
And don’t even think of not feeding your meter. Because an expired meter ticket in Evanston will cost you an whole $10–it used to be just $5 until it went up in 2012.
